Q -

How does JustAid ensure that completed projects do not fall into disuse?

A -

The sustainability of projects is addressed from the offset. The communities themselves are responsible for identifying how a project will be maintained and this community involvement, at every stage of the project - from planning and construction through to maintenance - encourages a sense of community ownership and responsibility. By ensuring that the long term needs of the project are evaluated when the project is first proposed, the benefits of the project are more likely to be felt long after the project has been completed.
In addition, local technology will normally be used so that there is no dependence on ongoing outside support. Also, where appropriate, an associated training element will be built into the project, which will include maintenance of equipment and/or awareness/skills training to ensure maximum ongoing benefit for the community.
