Construction of community hall for a poor and marginalised community

Ref:  87.00

Where is this project needed?

Baglung, Nepal

Who needs help with this?

Marginalised families living in Baglung district

How will my support help?

This project is to support a community group who have been in operation in Baglung district since 1990. The main focus of this group is to support the surrounding rural community and the unprivileged families living in the area. They have run numerous programs in the past but they are restricted in what they can do as they do not have a building to work from. They would like to run training programs for their community as well as hold meeting and discussion groups. They would also be able to rent the hall out to generate a regular income to support the various activities that they are involved in. Your support with this project would provide a valuable resource for this community. The community are able to contribute all of the skilled and unskilled labour needed to build the hall but they need outside support to buy the necessary building materials.

"People who have come together as a community to solve problems that the government used to solve but currently cannot have seen the effectiveness of their own actions as an organization. The large numbers of repaired water pipes, rehabilitated schools, and well-maintained community buildings testify to the capability and resourcefulness of organized communities." UNDP
