Science Lab Equipment for 700 students at a poorly funded secondary school Ref: 30.00 Where is this project needed? Bihukot, Nepal Who needs help with this? Amar Secondary School How will my support help? This school is situated in a rural area of Nepal and has limited funding. It lacks many basic facilities and as a result, the students studying here miss out on a full education. The students attending here are from poor families and are disadvantaged due to their social status. The local community have arranged for a science teacher to teach at this rural school. However, they do not have funds to provide the necessary science equipment needed to teach the national curriculum. Your support with this project will provide the students with a balanced and improved education rather than the current substandard education that reflects the discrimination they already face as members of a poor community. They will have the opportunity to learn the full science curriculum that is taught to more affluent and privileged students. Cost Breakdown All items are bought in Nepal; to reduce costs and to support the local economy. All costs are therefore given in Nepalese Rupees. JustAid is currently using an exchange rate of £1 = 120 Nepalese Rupees. This rate is slightly lower than the Banks because it allows for fluctuation in the rates For basic lab equipment and chemicals = 24000 NRS Transportation of equipment from Kathmandu = 2500 NRS Project Implementation costs= 3500 NRS Local bank charges to receive funds= 350 NRS Total Cost of Project = 30,350 Nepalese Rupees "Education is a fundamental human right.
