Desks and benches for a remote primary school

Where is this project needed?   Ilam, Nepal   Who needs help with this?   Navin Pragati Primary school   How will my support help?   This is school for a 100 students set up and funded by the local community, as there was no school for their children to attend. Since it is a poor community, they are having to run on an extremely tight budget. As a result, they lack some of the most basic facilities. In this school, there are not enough benches or desks for the students to sit at and they have to sit on the floor for their lessons. Your support with this project would provide enough benches and desks for the students, creating a much improved and more suitable learning environment for the pupils to get the most from their studies.   Cost Breakdown All items are bought in Nepal; to reduce costs and to support the local economy. All costs are therefore given in Nepalese Rupees. JustAid is currently using an exchange rate of £1 = 120 Nepalese Rupees. (www.unesco.org)     Nepal Factfile   Population: 23.1 million Average annual income: US$ 220 per capita.   Nepal is one of the world's least developed economies and also one of the poorest countries. Nepal suffers severe environmental, health and educational problems. Nepal has been described as a "country of villages", with 95% of the population living in rural and remote mountainous regions. Only 27% of the population have access to adequate sanitation. Every year 35,000 children still lose their lives due to diarrhea. 76% of adult females are illiterate.
