"Most of the 1.2 billion people living on less than a dollar a day are women. Micro-credit is an economically sustainable method of fighting poverty. Experience shows that women will get the most out of a micro-credit opportunity and will invest their income toward the well being of their families. Extra money earned is used to obtain better food, housing and education. As a result, the returns to the entire society are high.
