Construction of a pit latrine toilet for a family in rural Nepal Ref: 85.01 Where is this project needed? Baglung, Nepal Who needs help with this? Marginalised families living in Baglung district How will my support help? This project is part of a larger scale programme to support 10 families living in a rural area of Nepal to build toilets in their homes. These families currently do not have access to a toilet which poses a significant health risk to all of the family members, but especially the children. The project will include health awareness training for all of the families to educate them on the importance of hygiene sanitation. Families living in this area are from one of the most disadvantaged ethnic groups in Nepal. They have received little education and have limited awareness about health and sanitation issues. Many health problems are faced by these communities as a direct result of their living conditions. They are living well below the poverty line and so have little opportunity to improve their situation without financial support. Diarrhoea is a major problem that still kills children in Nepal and poor sanitation is one of the main contributing factors. This community recognises the importance of this project and is committed to provide materials and labour towards the project cost. Your support will help provide toilet facilities for one family in this community and will provide health awareness training to improve understanding of key sanitation issues. Cost Breakdown All items are bought in Nepal; to reduce costs and to support the local economy. All costs are therefore given in Nepalese Rupees. JustAid is currently using an exchange rate of £1 = 120 Nepalese Rupees.
